Orange is an interesting colour in that it does not have a long history. It is named after the royal colours of the House of Orange, who originally possessed the small territory of Orange that today is in the heart of modern France. At a certain point the fruit became named after them due the similarity of the colour and they migrated from France to become Stadtholders of Holland. So today this is the colour of both the fruit and the royal colours of Holland but originally there was no word to describe this colour sitting between red and yellow, and prior to the citrus fruit no need to.
