Overly close to his father's favourite, the Duke of Buckingham. The two of them went off together incognito to Spain for him to woo the Spanish Infanta but the king Spain's minister entered into a series of negotiations familiar to anyone who has observed the EU and it all ended badly. Ended up coming back to England in disgrace, much to the relief of the English. After acceding to the throne married Princess Henrietta Maria, a daughter of France. He named Maryland after her.
